Fan Fiction

Fanfic...so rife with the fun and the atrocious. If you have a favorite science fiction or fantasy movie, book series or television show, you have probably investigated the fan fiction scene. Fans writing their own stories for their favorite characters. Some of it is very interesting, some of it is simply awful, but all of it investigates unexplored plot lines, character interactions and alternative universes. Considering the wide published AU's of Star Trek and Star Wars, it should not be surprising that an unpublished, unofficial community of writers has been hard at work expanding the mythology of popular franchises. Want more Stargate or Stargate: Atlantis? Tons of stories. Star Trek- those have been around for decades and are still going strong with the addition of the additional series beyond TOS. Star Wars - you can't throw a rock in the fanfic arena without hitting a Star Wars tale. And Dreseden Files, and Smallville and tons of anime titles...

If current offerings are not to your liking - write your own! Choose your characters, your plot/situation. Outline the story, write the dialogue, describe the action. Read, revise, rewrite. Choose an episode/book/movie and rewrite something that you think the original writers messed up. Don't worry if it is "good" or not, just make sure it satisfies your expectations. Don't be afraid to share what you've written with others. They may have good suggestions for enhancing your story. In every scifi/fantasy aficionado lies a geek who has their own vault of possible tales to tell. Get cracking and write them down!
